A Proposal to Remember
Chef Joann & Co. brings moody lighting and artfully plated cuisine to Firefly Grove

Say I do

The Experience
Celebrating love, culture, and connection in the hills of Fallbrook.
Some events stay with you long after the last plate is cleared.\
Not just because of the food—but because of the moment everyone gathered to witness.
This February, my team and I had the honor of catering a proposal celebration for Garvit and Divya at the beautiful Firefly Grove in Fallbrook, California. It was one of those evenings that reminded me why I love what I do: helping create experiences that bring people together around life’s most meaningful milestones.
From the quiet anticipation before the proposal to the joyful dinner that followed, the entire evening unfolded as a celebration of love, culture, and community.
A Hidden Gem in the Hills of Fallbrook
Firefly Grove is one of those venues that feels cinematic the moment you arrive.
The property blends modern gathering spaces with beautifully curated interiors—rich colors, art-filled rooms, vintage accents, and architectural details that make every corner feel thoughtfully designed. As guests walked through the front doors and looked out over the rolling hills, the setting immediately created a sense of occasion.
The evening began indoors where guests gathered in the living room to mingle over appetizers and drinks. Later, everyone moved to the gazebo for the moment Garvit asked Divya the question that brought everyone together.
And of course, she said yes.
Afterward, guests explored the property, enjoyed conversation in the lounge spaces, and eventually gathered outside for dinner on the terrace overlooking the hills.
Designing a Menu that Honors Culture and Celebration
One of the things I love most about my work is the opportunity to design menus that reflect the people we’re cooking for.
For this event, the entire dinner was vegetarian, honoring the couple’s preferences while still delivering vibrant flavor and variety. The goal was to create something elegant, seasonal, and deeply satisfying.
Guests were welcomed with a selection of passed bites and grazing platters including:
- Mediterranean mezze spreads with hummus, cheeses, olives, and tabbouleh
- Puff pastry canapés with lemon dill goat cheese
- Lentil croquettes with paneer and herb olive oil
As the evening transitioned to dinner, guests were served a plated first course that quickly became one of my favorite moments of the night: roasted acorn squash soup served inside the squash itself, finished with crispy sage and warm spices.
Alongside it, we plated a bright citrus salad with fennel, blood orange, and pistachio—bringing freshness and color to the table.
A Dinner Designed for Gathering
The terrace dinner was one of the most beautiful parts of the evening.
With views stretching across the hills, guests gathered around a long table dressed with soft linens, glassware catching the afternoon light, and simple floral touches that let the landscape speak for itself.
The meal continued family-style with dishes designed for sharing:
- Capellini with asparagus and chili-mint gremolata
- Charred broccolini with lemon and garlic
- Snap pea, bell pepper, and shiitake medley
- Citrus beet salad with feta and pepitas
The final savory course featured braised tofu with leeks, potatoes, and rainbow carrots in San Marzano tomato sauce, a comforting dish that grounded the meal and brought warmth to the table.
Ending the Evening with Something Sweet
No celebration is complete without dessert.
Inside the house, we created an intimate dessert display featuring a collection of small sweets guests could enjoy as the evening continued:
- Mediterranean sunshine cake with citrus and olive oil
- Tiramisu cups layered with mascarpone and Kahlua
- Chocolate torte petit fours with raspberry compote
Set beneath warm candlelight with vintage serving pieces and delicate plates, the dessert table became its own little gathering point as guests lingered, talked, and reflected on the evening.
Why Moments Like This Matter
Events like this remind me that hospitality isn’t just about serving food.
It’s about creating space for the moments people remember for the rest of their lives.
A proposal.
A wedding.
A milestone celebration.
A gathering of family and friends.
At Chef Joann & Co., those are the moments we care about most. Every menu, every table, every detail is designed to help the experience feel personal, thoughtful, and connected to the people at the center of it.
Being part of Garvit and Divya’s story—right at the beginning of their next chapter—was an honor my team and I won’t forget.
Planning a Special Event?
If you’re planning an event and seeking a culinary experience that feels elevated, personal, and thoughtfully curated, I’d love to connect.
Because the most meaningful celebrations always start with bringing people together around the table.
